Toxoplasma Centennial Special IJP Issue
The 8th of February 2009 marks one hundred years since Nicolle and Manceaux published the first description of Toxoplasma gondii. This historic paper and the discoveries that have followed will be celebrated at the 10th International Congress on Toxoplasmosis. As a research community, it is the perfect opportunity to reflect on the history of our field, particularly as it impacts on our present research and future investigations. The International Journal for Parasitology has graciously agreed to publish a special issue devoted to articles reviewing the history of various aspects of Toxoplasma research. These articles will be a departure from standard review papers, as they will include commentary on the events that changed our understanding of the biological nature of T. gondii. As a special treat for those of us who are not fortunate enough to be fluent in French or Italian, the issue will reprint translations of the seminal papers by Nicolle and Manceaux and Splendore. We are aiming to have this Toxoplasma Centennial issue published in time for the meeting.
